GATEWAY TO UNIVERSITY HONORS

I was accepted to the University Honors Program in the spring of my first year. This meant that I had to take Gateway to University Honors in the spring semester. This course allowed me to learn what it means to be a member of the honors program and what is required of me throughout the years. I also learned the benefits that I would gain, like early registration of classes.

This class focused on the UHP Vision, which is: developing students into global citizen scholars who lead innovative efforts toward solving the world’s complex problems. I created my own definition of a global citizen scholar and saw how it changed throughout the course. During this class, I was able to connect with other students. Although the course was virtual, I was able to interact with other students by commenting on their discussion posts.

I learned about the different opportunities I have since I am apart of UHP. These opportunities are really intriguing to me because I can use them to become a global citizen scholar. There are three types of honors experiences that I can take part in at UC: honors seminars, pre-approved experiences, and self-designed experiences. There are also different ways for me to get involved such as peer mentoring, research projects through UHP Discover, and being an honors ambassador.

This class made me realize how lucky I am to be a part of the honors program. Even though there are many requirements and expectations that I must meet, I can learn from the experiences I am given to better myself as a person.
